LECTURES CUM DEMONSTRATION

Year: 2003 / Director: Renzo Vescovi

Bharata Natyam is the classic Indian dance par excellence. it used to be performed in temples by sacred female dancers, called devadrasi, that were raised and taught in art and music for this sole purpose.
There are different Bharata Natyam styles: the one proposed here belongs to the purest tradition of Madras, capitol of Tamil Nadu, birthplace of Bharata Natyam.

The performance is structured as a meeting where the audience is invited in the world of Eastern dance-theatre through analysis and examples. This arrangement thus satisfies the double need for understanding dance and its relevance in contemporary theatrical research, and its more general function of entertainment per se.
